Web and Mobile Passport Scanning
Turasistan/Customer Registration & Passport Scanning
Customer Registration
Register customers three ways, and let the system recommend the most reliable
Turasistan App offers three ways to register a customer: manual entry, OCR passport reading in the web panel, and NFC with the Turasistan Reader mobile app. Whichever you use, the data comes together on a single customer card. The system always recommends NFC, the most reliable method.
— Registration methods
Three registration methods
Manual entry
Passport details are typed into the form
Where: Web panel
Accuracy: Depends on the care of the person entering it
OCR reading
The MRZ lines on the passport photo are read
Where: Web panel and Turasistan Reader
Accuracy: There may be a margin of error depending on photo quality
NFC reading
The data on the passport chip is read
Where: Turasistan Reader
Accuracy: The most reliable method, since the data comes from the chip
— Web panel
OCR passport reading in the web panel
Upload a photo of the passport to the Turasistan App web panel; the system reads the MRZ lines on the photo (the two machine-readable lines at the bottom of the passport) via OCR and creates the customer record.
Because OCR relies on the photo image, the result depends on how clear the photo is; some fields may be missing or misread. For the best result, photograph the passport flat, sharp and without glare, and check the details after registration.

— Mobile
Mobile passport reading with Turasistan Reader
Turasistan Reader turns an NFC-enabled phone into a passport reader. Take a photo of the passport, then hold the passport to the phone: the chip data is read and transferred to the customer record.
- ✓NFC reading: Take the photo and hold the passport to the phone to get the data from the chip.
- ✓Add from gallery: Add a passport photo the customer sent you from the gallery; the data is read via OCR.
- ✓Registration without NFC: You can also register the customer and create the tour reservation without NFC; in that case the data is read via OCR.
- ✓Reservation: Choose the package and room type during the transfer, and the customer is added to the tour with them.

— Remote registration
Passport not with you? Let the customer do NFC on their own phone
NFC requires the passport to be held to the phone. If you don't have the passport, your customer can enter the customer code and scan their passport via NFC on their own phone; the data is uploaded straight to your system. That way you get a record with accurate chip data even from a customer who is far away.
— Comparison
NFC vs. OCR
| Topic | OCR | NFC |
|---|---|---|
| Data source | The MRZ lines on the passport photo | The passport chip |
| Accuracy | There may be a margin of error depending on photo quality | No accuracy issues, since the data comes from the chip |
| Fields received | May not provide every field | The chip data arrives as is |
| What you need | A photo of the passport | The passport itself and an NFC-enabled phone |
| When to use | When NFC is not possible | Always the first choice; the system recommends it too |
— Customer card
After registration
Whichever method is used, the customer comes together on a single card; the same record is used in reservations, visa transfers and reports. How the record was created shows on the customer card as its registration source.

— Workflow
How does it work?
Choose the method: If you have the passport, NFC in Turasistan Reader; if not, NFC on the customer's own phone; if that is not possible either, OCR.
Scan the passport: On mobile, take the photo and do NFC, or upload the passport photo in the web panel.
Check the details: Review the fields, especially for records created by OCR.
Add to the tour: Choose the package and room type and create the reservation.
